Thompson, Chris Cabrera

Chris Cabrera Thompson serves as the IT Manager for the UCLA Department of English, where he leads strategic technology initiatives, oversees departmental IT operations, and manages a diverse portfolio of projects supporting faculty, staff, and students. Chris directs the department’s technical infrastructure, user support operations, and long-term technology planning, ensuring continuity of service while driving the adoption of modern, scalable solutions.

With a strong focus on operational efficiency and innovation, Chris architects and implements technology strategies that enhance instructional delivery, research workflows, and administrative processes across the Department of English and Writing Programs. His work includes leading multi-phase IT projects, coordinating cross-unit collaboration, evaluating emerging technologies, and aligning digital solutions with organizational goals.

Chris is an active leader in the UC technology community. He presented XR Initiatives at UCLA at the 2023 UC Tech Conference at UC Berkeley, and presented on Generative AI projects within the UCLA Department of English at the 2024 UC Tech Conference at UC Davis.

In addition to his departmental role, Chris serves on the UCLA BruinTech Board as President-Elect. In 2025, he led the BruinTech Annual Conference at UCLA, bringing together the UCLA IT leadership team and the broader IT community to discuss campus-wide technology strategy, digital transformation priorities, and collaborative innovation.
